this piece of news has been vigorously reported in the papers recently and i thought it was worth giving it some thought..

basically, a well-known local civic society for women had their AGM recently and all of a sudden, the top positions were swept away by a bunch of xin jiao members, all of whom only joined the society very recently. The lao jiaos, however, were all stunned and some walked out.

Interestingly, however, is the coincidental (or maybe not so) religious origins of the newly elected members. Most of them attend the same church, whom theological beliefs and philosophies are somewhat rather conservative, to some extent, even fundamentalist.

The civic society, in the first place, shud be a secular, non-partisan group that is supposed to bring good to the community. If it is run by a group of christian fundamentalist, will the organisation's purposeful vision be skewed or worst, be blinded by their fundamentalist views?

Do they have any hidden agenda up their sleeves?

Shrugs. Dont really sound good to me. Seems like they just want to permeate into every aspect of our society. Firstly, public spaces. Now, civic groups.

What is so different from them and the radicals from some extreme groups who wants the whole world "islamified"?

A bit far fetched, but ya, food for thought!

Here are two articles I came across recently,

Article 1 is from ROY-Ters. Neednt explain more abt this wire agency la..

Article 2 is taken from a website based in SG, talking mainly about the dysfunctional side of this slowly rotting place in which we call home.

After reading the 2 articles, i feel we all should go malayia and learn how to make ramlee burgers, goreng pisang and bbq ayam so tat we all can go set up stalls along pasar malams and fun fairs.

These articles also somewhat reaffirms my belief that I will try my best to steer away from becoming a see-vil servant, because the money that i'm gonna spend will cause me not to have good nights' sleep.

what a joke for a top see-vil servant to openly declare such extravagant spending. i really wonder how often such spendings take place across our highly paid leaders.

oh well, THIS IS SIIINGGAAPPORRE!!!!

Its been a darn looong time since i last updated this boring blog of mine..

well, since its the last day of the year, i guess an update would be rather apt to round up this year..

semester's long over. din do too well, at least not up to expectation.

learnt that its not really wise to choose modules of your interest in this condemned place as there are a lot of ppl out there who does nothing but digest books for a living. no way to outshine them in their papers and essays.. ok la.. i'm not zai enough too.. =(

oh well, at least its a lesson learnt.

a new year is here and whats a new year without resolutions?

here are a few simple ones of mine!

1. To get better grades - by first choosing the right modules and studying more effectively and more productively.

2. To train hard - I want to bring back that piece of metal which is currently lying in some ulu office located somewhere in boon lay.

3. To train harder - I want to keep that piece of metal away from boon lay, for as long as possible.

k la.. should be all for now..

recently got hooked to hanszimmer after using some of his music to do a simple video for sch stuff..

somehow, i find solace in his music..

despite them being purely instrumental pieces, they somehow have this ability to create some mood and to some extent, tell some stories..

esp so for some inspirational pieces.. there were times when even images/visuals will start forming in my head as i hear these music..

am i over-reading sometimes?

anyway, sch started alrdy.. seems like a heavy semester..

caught this sequel earlier today.

despite ST Life's unfavorable reviews (those buggers there gave it a miserable 1.5 stars man), i feel that its a show which really strikes a deep chord with heartlanders.

in an authentic jack neo-style, issues like old age and family ties once again formed a bulk of the plot.

of cus, as the movie is titled, the main plot of the story revolves around the characters' experiences in attempting to get rich - quick, and the consequences which followed in trying to get rich the easy way.

i particularly liked one part where one of the characters got involved multi-level marketing, or MLM for short.

well, for the uninitiated, MLM is one form of direct-marketing, which refers to the seller bypassing all intermediaries to get the product directly to u, the buyer.

but of cus, MLM is more than that.

it is an over-rated scheme, if i may use the word, which many ppl have thought would make them become millionaires overnight.

u spend a lump sum, buy the products in bulk, become ur own boss, and start selling.
in the midst of selling, u psycho ur customers, who are usually ur relatives/friends into buying the similar products and start selling too.

and whenever they order more products from u, u take a slice of commission. and in the ideal situation, u have many, many customers who buy the products from u and guess wat, u can have many many slices of commission/s!

reality check.

u can nv have tat ideal situation. well, the system can work out initially, but it can never stay effective forever.

yep, shit happened in the movie and the characters who were involved in the scheme got into trouble..

another mockery of MLM which happened in the movie that really cracked me up was the fact that MLM companies usually have some motivational speakers who are "real life examples" of those who made it big thru the system.

they are there to brain-fuck those attending the so-called "seminars" and influence them into parting with their money.

many a times, there will also be a few other "real life examples" who will go on stage to share their "testimonies" on how poor they were and how much their lives have changed after "believing and trusting the system".

i was seriously laughing as this really reminded me of a striking similarity which i had observed for quite sometime between MLM and some cult..opps i mean, some ecclesiastical organisations.

they have a full arena packed with brain-fucked ppl who can suddenly cheer and go crazy as if in a rock concert jus because their "motivational speaker" speaks a few lines of nonsensical crap.

and of cus, every once in a while, to allay the trust and confidence of the rest of those who "attend the seminar", there'll be a one or two who goes up and speaks abt their positive experiences (i wonder if they are paid for doing so) since they joined the churc..i mean, the "faith-based organisation".

i really cant help but to laugh at the similarity when i saw it on the big screen.

oh well, enough of my ramblings. guess i digressed too much.. lol..

all in all, its quite an okay movie to catch. seriously..

do show our local productions some support!

i came across a rather interesting gift idea.. and i felt it wud be realy nice and memorable to have that gift for a fren of mine..

but well, shit happens and emo sets in..

past memories, good and bad, starts flooding in..

u begin to feel emo and come up with wierd msn nicks..

and concerned friends wud pop by and drop a few words of advice, which kinda made some sense..

"devotion dun really pay off sometimes.." lol.. true lor..

sigh.. even tho it feels so real at times, guess we'll still end up being good friends.. nothing more than tat..

much had been said and done, and sometimes i wished these much had not happened, for there wont be so many false hopes and mixed signals, which in fact had caused much unhappiness..

oh well (my latest fav slang), so is it really worth it afterall?

was shown this movie during one of my lectures when we were discussing abt issues dealing with child care and parenthood recently.

its a japanese movie inspired by a true but morbid story about how an irresponsible mom leaves her 4 kids at home and goes missing for months and leave them nothing but some petty cash..

the kids were left to survive on their own and eventually the youngest one died..

in the midst of the mad rush for projects and assignments, this movie came to my knowledge at rather an appropriate time as it pleasantly distracts me temporary away from the stress and crazy deadlines..

looking things in perspective, it made me realise that life is not simply about achieving a CAP score of 4.5, getting gold medals or buying the best cameras and the sharpest lens..

its about appreciating wat u have, appreciating ur frens and appreciating ur loved ones.. esp ur family..

nothing beats seeing them smile and feeling happy.. =)

anyway, do check out the show.. definitely a good watch..
